Yeah, yeah, long time no hear from, I know. Shit has been so hectic in my life, I barely have time for my thoughts. Besides me hitting the books on some higher learning ish, my job has been more demanding of me. I've been trying to move up in rank so to speak, and because of that I've been doing some travel for my job. I've had to start taking on-line classes to accommodate my travel. I'm on-line for most of the hours that I'm awake, but still have very little time to attend to a blog or even check in on other bloggers from time to time. For the latter, I sincerely apologize, and hope that you understand my position. If it means anything to you guys, I do peak in on you guys sometimes, but may not leave a comment. Hope everything is well with you all.

Besides work and school, there is also my one and only heart, my baby boy (pictured below, holding my nephew). I've recently had the pleasure of joining the ranks of "mothers-with-teenage-boys". If anyone knows what that's like, holla! Worst of all, my child is extremely social, the popular type. The kids, (the majority being of course the female type) calling my house all times of the evening. The parties, that he has to attend or else he'll die a million deaths. Teachers calling my house (twice in September already) telling me how my child's social/class clown/disruptive behavior is going to effect his grades if he doesn't tone it down. Sigh. The normal woes of a parent I suppose. But on top of all that, worrying about him- a young black boy out here on these mean Philly streets - can be very, very, very stressful. I'm very protective of him, so you can imagine the struggles he and I have when it comes to allowing him to do things without me around. Even though I've always hated when other people said it, I only have one child (btw, glad he's not a girl), so you do the math on that.

I have been watching what's been going on 'round here in the country though. Shit is getting hectic. So-called economic turmoil. Bush & his boys are looting the joint before he leaves office, and we are basically allowing him. They call it a bail out, I call it what it is. I'm more fearful about this election now than I've been about any election EVER. I'm not going to ear beat anyone with why this election year is so important, and please go out and vote, and yadda yadda ya, because it is just so painfully obvious.I will say this though: I swear to God, if Crypt-Keeper & Gidget gets elected as Pres and VP up in this bitch, I am so, so outta here. I'm deflecting to Canada and taking my son with me, you can mark my words. Obama/Biden 08!

Miss Rap Supreme

Just when you thought it was safe to turn on your televisions again due to the writers going back to work, think twice. Good old VH1 is here to give us another wholesome goodie. Miss Rap Supreme which airs on Monday April 14th, is the latest rap reality show to spring from the VH1/ego trip collaboration.

I was geeked when I first heard about this show, as I feel there is a need for more "femcees" to have exposure. I'm up pretty late writing this, and my memory isn't 100% right now, but if I'm right the only female MC out here making any noise is Lil' Mama, unless you count Missy (which I simply refuse). It's like women were phased out at some point. They are either in jail, about to go, on probation, or just got released. We've all seen what's happened to Lauryn, and Eve and Latifah are Hollywood now. The era of the femcee has long gone. I feel some type of way about that too.

Hilarity ensued from the try out phase, brought on by girls from my hometown.You know Philly always have some shit with us. This time it was in the form of a female that calls herself Merck The Black Russian (who is a black girl that spits in Russian), and Hedonis Da Amazon (who's violent lyrics about giving out free abortions will scare the bejesus out of you, trust).

There are a handful of the ten contestants chosen that have rap skills. My top three lyrical femcee picks so far are Chiba, Lady Twist & Rece Steele. A special shout out goes out to Bree, an aspiring rapper/boxer and buddy of mines from Myspace. A honorable mention goes to Nicky2States, the single mother of 4 who just started rapping a year ago. I find that pretty amazing, only thing is she needs to say something that's meaningful.

Of course the hot mess of the show was Miss My Neck & My Back. Grrr! Why is Khia there? I wasn't really feeling the way one of the chicks on the show (Ms. Cherry) put her on the spot, but chickie had a point. Khia has had her chance, and the possibility that she is nothing more than a one hit wonder is very strong. My advise? Go lay down somewhere, leave those ridiculous looking red, black, gold and green crocheted outfits alone and exit quietly out the rear door, thank you. In case you were wondering, yes, she brought her fashion faux pas with her to the show. Not the bikini number in the picture above, apparently she has plenty of them.

First off I want to say thanks for all the emails that I received expressing concerns over my whereabouts, lack of posts, etc. Also a special thanks goes out to those bloggers that kept checking out the page for updates that were nonexistent. An extra special shout out goes out to those who don't give a shit; I feel yall, sometimes I don't give a shit either.

I've been keeping very busy these days. Besides being a single mother and full time employee of the gub'ment, I've decided to take my black ass back to school. As if life wasn't already stressful enough, I've gone back to thesis statements for APA style papers and math equations that stump the hell out of me. Oh, did I mention that I've been out of school for like ten years? Terms like citations, APA, order of operations and the like were like speaking Russian to me. I definitely needed to study hard to bring me back up to the college level.

So that's basically what I have been doing, sharpening my writing and math skills while also taking classes to fulfill my degree. So excuse me if this blog isn't a first, second, or third priority anymore. It will be a priority again, maybe when I feel like I'm on top of my study game. There may be some post here and there, please bare with me. As it is now I barely have enough time to visit the many wonderful blogs on my blog roll, let alone the blogs that I've bookmarked.

I also want to say that I'm sorry it took me so long to post this, but this really has been on my mind for the longest (I had the intention to post this months ago).

P.S. I know I'm trifling, so what!

Rock was released from Rikers Island prison today after posting $125,000 bail. Anyone remember back in the day when they had real cartoons on Saturday morning? I mean good quality cartoons on every major network, you would have so many to choose from that you had to make out a schedule. Well I know thats how I was, a total cartoon freak. The Smurfs, Thundercats, He-Man, Gi-Joe, Spiderman & Friends, Superfriends & The Justice League...i could go on and on. Oh, how I hated to wake up early during the weekdays, but come Saturday morning at 6am I was bright eyed and bushy tailed with a bowl of cereal parked right in front of the TV. Those were the days and too bad these kids will know nothing about good cartoons unless they have the Boomerang Channel.

Believe it or not the real highlight of my mornings would be School House Rock, the little educational cartoon ditties that came on in between the cartoon shows. SHR was a great learning tool, I don't know why they stopped showing them. A couple of years back they were advertising the dvd on a commercial, and I was so geeked I ordered it immediately.(For my son of course,lol.)

One of my favorite SHR songs ever.

I remember my teacher had a kids album on wax that had this song on it. This song is how I learned my three times tables.

I remember this kid from Philly named Tracy Lee came out with a song called The Theme (It's Party Time) that had an interpolation of this song.

I'm so mad that the Eagles have been doing bad this year, and I know why now. I wasn't so quick to blame Donovan Mcnabb like the rest of my fellow Eagles 'fans'. As you may know the fans here are the most brutal in the country. Here we boo Santa Clause and throw snow balls at him. Anyway, I blame Andy Reid for losing control of his team, and now his household.

Both of Andy Reid's boys are now on lockdown at Montgomery County Jail for basically doing a lot of dumb shit. The judge that sentenced the Reid boys called Andy Reid's home a "drug emporium", this is after a search of the home found drugs, drug paraphernalia and guns. That's not all, one of the sons smuggled 89 pills into the jail via his asshole! 89 pills, is that even possible?! He even brags about selling to people in North Philadelphia, one of Philly's most dangerous neighborhoods.

I don't see how the NFL can tolerate this from their coaches. Seems like they should be just as hard on them as the players. They effect the outcome of games just as well as the players do. You can guarantee if any of the players where caught with all those drugs and guns in their house they would at the very least be suspended. I don't get it, but whatever. All I know is the team is suffering and he needs time off to get his house in order.

I know I'm super late with this video but I have just gotten the chance to witness this horror. In my house Sundays are dedicated to enjoying football games during the season so I didn't even realize these awards were on. I heard all about this craziness that she calls a performance but by the time I had a chance to view it the video was disabled. Found it over at Megavideo, so I guess Viacom ain't up on their game.

Anyway, after viewing this for myself I understand were Kanye West was coming from when he blasted MTV for letting her be the opening act. Like Kanye said on 106 & Park, she just wasn't ready. I'm a fake ass/wannabe psychologist so I was trying to figure out were she was at mentally. (For those wondering, I find it easier to analyze her than my girl Lauryn Hill because to be real with you it's still hard for me to cope with 'losing' Lauryn.) This performance left me wondering if she trusts anybody at all, because she obviously doesn't trust anyone to help her style her hair, clothes, or choreograph her performances. She can't have anybody behind her condoning this shit. That had to be all crazy ass Britney.

So with my mini fake ass/wannabe psychoanalysis, I've come to the conclusion that she has major trust issues, and low self-esteem. She needs some daily affirmations like that character from SNL Stuart Smalley, as played by Al Franken. You know, get in a group setting and say shit like "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, & doggone it people like me!"

But you have to see the woman who is pissing me off at the moment.

I hate the local evening news, especially the first couple of minutes. In Killadelphia,Pistolvania the murder capitol of the US, the first few minutes of the news usually contain all the murders of the day so far. It's ridiculous out here and anyone from here can testify to that. Go over to Field Negro's blog, he keeps the murder count updated daily on his sidebar. Shits thick out here no doubt, and young people like myself live here in fear of their lives everyday, so I know the elderly must be petrified.

The first few minutes of this evenings 6 o'clock news was different I must say. Murders were there of course but they came second today. No today is one for the record books for real. This local news story caught my eye and I just had to write something about it. To be honest, I'm usually too shocked and dismayed by all violence/murders going on in my own community to be concerned with THEIR problems. This stuck out because of the nature of this case. This case is murder...or is it?

Imagine shooting a cop, getting charged & found guilty of aggregated assault with attempt to kill, and doing 15 years for it. Your victim is paralyzed, confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. You do your time for it and get out. Then your victim, the cop you shot 40 years ago, dies from the gunshot wound that you caused. Two weeks later your charged with murdering the same cop you did time for all those years ago. WTF?

Well yeah, that's what's going on in here in Philly. There is this guy William Barnes who is now 71 years old is being charged with murder for the very scenario in the paragraph above. Yep, with all the crime and murder going on around here that goes unsolved or haven't been prosecuted as of yet, our dumb ass DA Lynne Abraham wants to waste my hard earned tax money on prosecuting somebody that already done time for the crime he committed.

This man Barnes has since changed his ways and after all, at 71 is soon to meet his maker as well. We have a high murder rate, but a low conviction rate, and her damn office finds the time to file a murder charge on a holiday no less!

Don't get me wrong I truly feel for the victim, Walter Barclay. He lost the use of his limbs on the line of duty, just one of the many reasons I could/would never be a policewoman. I cant even imagine what that must be like. That being said, we all must go sometime. I find it hard to believe you can directly link a gun shot wound to a death 40 years later. I also think Abraham is tripping and definitely needs to retire she thinks this is the direction she needs to be going. She is part of Philly problems.

People ask me how I came up with the name Hottnikz. It's my on-line name, and have been posting comments under this name for years. They often ask am I really "hot" as far as looks goes. The name may sound like I think I'm the shit, but the reason I chose the name has nothing to do with vanity at all. It's actually a handle I stole from Method Man of the Wu-Tang Clan. Since my name is Nik, and Meth was one of my former play husbands, I thought the name was more befitting of me. It sounds better on a female anyway. I'll admit the name does grab attention, which is the point. Besides, the man has so many names he calls himself, I figured he could share one of them with his boo! Check him and Wu-Tang in the Flintstone inspired "Gravel Pit".

Yes music inspires people. It inspired my on-line personality, Hottnikz. With that being said, I bothers me to see people take things too far. Naming your child is serious business, not a game or something to do to get back at your ex. Don't be so selfish when naming your child, think about the years of ridicule that your child may have to deal with. Or think name profiling when it comes time for a job. There is a big difference between a ethnic name and something just plain ridiculous. Just peep the video below.

They say Remy Ma is accused in an attempted murder. A woman, Makeda Barnes-Joseph was shot in the abdomen early Saturday morning after arguing with Remy. I want start off by saying that I love this guy Michael Moore. He is so entertaining. You know him, he is the author of Stupid White Men. He also did that special for Bravo network called The Awful Truth (almost forgot about that, one of my favs)and many other documenteries like Bowling For Columbine and Farenhiet 9/11. By now I'm sure everyone has heard about his newest controversial documentary Sicko. If you've been living under a rock, the doc is about how screwed up America's health care system is. The movie is set to release in theaters on June 29th. Here is the official trailer.

Above is a clip from CNN, talking about Moore being investigated by the government for filming in Cuba. They also ran a clip from Moore's movie about a man who got two of his fingers cut off and has to decide which finger he can afford to get sewn back on. SMH. I think it's f**ked up when the health care industry puts price tags on fingers according to importance. Imagine how much it would have cost if it were his thumb!

In the movie he compares other health care systems that are government run and funded to America's privately owned system. I applaud Michael Moore for bringing this health care issue to the forefront by film. I do agree that it is time for a change. Maybe more of these politicians will start paying attention. I don't know about if I want this Gub'ment to be running thangs, but we need something to be done, like yesterday. I'm telling you, Canada is starting to look better to me everyday now. :)

As usual, Mike got people coming at his neck about this documentary. At the very least, they say that he is a liar, and that he manipulated the truth. So what else is new? They been saying that about him from day one, no matter what his gripe is about. This one guy, Luis Moro is calling him out, in the clip below. He paints a totally different picture of Cuban health care. Scary looking shit.

I dunno or care if Michael Moore is lying or not. He is getting people to pay attention and admit there must be changes of some kind made to the system, regardless if they do or do not agree with his solution.

So I'm up in the wee hours of the morning lurking around on the Internet. It's a good thing I have off of work today because I couldn't get any sleep. Anyway, I was browsing around and came across this little tidbit of exciting news. At first when I read the headline I was like "who?", but then I recalled this one hit wonder. Proof that even back in the 90's we were subjected to mindless nonsense that somehow manifests into a hit. If that's what you call a hit. Believe it or not the song went platinum. Surprising, huh? Well after that little "Ditty", it was a wrap for Paperboy. Guess that's why he started slanging weed. What they expect him to do after a big hit like that? Get a job like us regular folk? I LMAO though the whole video. I've laughed enough, I guess I can go to bed now.

T-Pain In My Ass

I had Father's Day all planned out. It was going to be great. I got my man a case of beer and a bottle of his favorite cognac. I made his favorite seafood salad and barbequed some ribs. I sexed him down. He got gifts, which included a card, a watch, and the new Fabolous cd. I wanted him to be relaxed when he came over my house because he deserves it. He is a damned good father.

Our weekend flowed through smoothly all the way up until Sunday, no problems at all. That is until ~~my dumb ass~~ I picked up the newspaper and read that T-Pain had the number 1 record in the country. That's when my whole weekend turned sour. I should have never even commented on this clown. That's where I messed up.

First of all, to be honest, my boyfriend and I are much too passionate about trivial shit. We will argue about stupid things that have nothing really to do with us or our relationship at all. Not real issues, just people or things that wouldn't mean a thing to normal couples. Our argument before this one was about Don Imus, of all things. Whether or not he should be fired. I said hell yeah he should of course, but he was worried about the man's financial future.(Can you believe that?) I remember we went to sleep angry at each other that night, and all over that old wrinkled up bag of a man!

But getting back to T-Pain, I guess this news was a little shocking. I mean I know his songs get major rotation on the radio (which is one of the many reasons why I don't listen) but #1 in the country? Am I the only person that refuses to be fooled into thinking he is anything more than a dude with a Talk box and a couple of hot beats? I suppose so. Roger Troutman is probably rolling around in his grave right this minute behind this dude! I was appalled, and I expressed my feelings. Which must have irritated my man because of course, he is a fan. He's brainwashed too! Damn you T-Pain! Just when I thought it was smooth sailing, here we go with the petty shit. He went into his normal rant about me not being open minded and not giving the music he likes a shot.

Which of course is a total lie. I try to listen to some of his music, I really do. He is into people like Jim Jones & Dipset, Lil' Wayne, Rick Ross, and now (I guess) the latest resident pervert, T-Pain. Out of the above, I like maybe two songs from Jim Jones, but could care less about the rest. I don't know maybe I'm just maturing, but I need more substance in my music. Spitting about jewelry, women, clothes, drugs, guns, and cars just don't impress me anymore. I can tolerate maybe one or two songs from your album being about that, but be more creative.Just sick of everybody rapping about the same things, it becomes redundant. I need more substance, bottom line. That's my whole argument.

His argument is that he gives everyone a chance and that I don't. If I already made up my mind not to like someone, that's it. No convincing me. It's a wrap. He says he listens to music that I put him on to. He heard of people like Consequence, Little Brother & The Justice League, and Dead Prez for the first time from me. He didn't like Ghostface Killah until he heard him with Ne-Yo and I had to put him onto Fishscale. I stay putting him onto game, the list goes on and on. I can't lie, he does listen, and usually likes the music that I introduce to him. He also said something that made me think for a second (but only a second). He said that even though Jim Jones and the rest raps about the same things in each song, check the metaphors and the way they put together the visual picture. The way that they talk about they're ice, drugs sales, and cars are what makes them unique. He also said that T-Pain makes up for what he lacks vocally with his production, and that I had no right to judge his album before I heard it. He said he heard it and liked it.

Like I said, it made me think for a second but I'm still not falling for it. I just fell back after that, because I saw this could turn into another Imus situation and besides this is Father's Day, his day. I'll let him think he won this debate. Tomorrow he is going to buy ~~T-Pervert's~~ T-Pain's cd and then I'll see what he was so desperately dying to waste his money on. Until then I'll just chill. I'll fight that urge I have to print out the lyrics and show them to him just to prove what an ~~bumbling idiot~~ musical genius he really is. (This guy apparently knows how much of a joke his lyrics are.) I'll just sit quietly with and open mind and then tell him how great the he is. It will be hard, but it's worth a try. Stay tuned.

I miss The Arsenio Hall Show. I really do. Back in the day his show was the only late night talk show to showcase Black artists, mainly the hip hop artists. That was the first time I saw Busta Rhymes perform live with LONS (that's Leaders of The New School for all the young bucks) and A Tribe Called Quest. They performed "Scenario". Classic performance. Arsenio Hall doesn't get the props he damn well deserves and I'm here to say that they should have kept him around.
